Notable Tetris Releases

  • 6th June, 1984

    Electronica 60

    Tetris on the Electronica 60

    Tetris for Electronica 60, the original creation which Alexey Pajitnov programmed in Pascal on an Electronica 60 computer, features black and white graphics, with a pair of brackets representing each block in a tetromino. A player controls input through the number pad and carets/vertical lines outlining the playfield.

    IBM PC

    Tetris on the IBM PC

    Tetris followed its original version for Electronica 60 when Vadim Gerasimov, then sixteen years old, ported it to IBM PC. This version spread through Moscow quickly after he and Alexey Pajitnov shared it with their friends.

    Commodore 64

    This was the first version of Tetris produced by Mirrorsoft for the commercial market. Most notable for its background music. It is one of the worst tetris implementations ever made other than that. 1 rotate button, no hard drop, and no twisting of pieces at all. even if the initial and final squares of a rotation are free, the peice will not rotate if it is against a wall.

    GameBoy

    Tetris, for Game Boy, is among the most played of its namesake. Nintendo, through the help of Henk Rogers, purchased the license from Elorg to package it with every new Game Boy system. Because of this, many players of the Game Boy generation remain familiar with this title, as it probably sold more than any other Tetris title so far. Having Tetris packaged with the Game Boy was most likely the cause of the Game's success.

    NES (Tengen)

    Tetяis: The Soviet Mind Game is a variant of Alexey Pajitnov's tile-matching game of the same name that was made for the NES. It was published by Atari Games under their "Tengen" label without Nintendo's approval. Atari still released this dispite the then ongoing legal battle regarding the rights to the game.

    Nintendo published the first official version of Tetris for Nintendo Entertainment System. This version of Tetris is still used to this day at annual Tetris competitions such as the CTWC and CTM.

    Tetris & Dr. Mario is a compilation of Tetris and Dr. Mario. Both games are a revamped version of their NES counterpart.

    This game features Mikey Mouse and friends. This game also uses it's own rotation system, which is a mixture betwen Atari and SRS. It has different initial piece orientations. all pieces other than T and square start vertical. Ls and Js start upside down.

    Tetris Party is an official game for WiiWare based on Tetris published by Hudson Soft and Tetris Online. the game supports the use of Miis and the Wii Balance Board, and features both local and online multiplayer in addition to several single-player modes unique to the game.

    Puyo Puyo Tetris is a crossover of Tetris and Puyo Puyo, a mainstream Japanese puzzle game. Published by Sega, it has been released for the 3DS, Wii U, Switch, Playstation 3, Playstation Vita, Playstation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S and PC.

    Tetris 99 is a multiplayer version of Tetris for the Nintendo Switch. It features a single free mode in which you are pitted against 98 other players online. Players attempt to eliminate their opponents by clearing lines to send garbage blocks to players they have targeted.

    Tetris Effect

    The game was released worldwide exclusively for the PlayStation 4 on November 9, 2018. The game garnered high praise from critics and was named Game of the Year by several publications. An enhanced version, named Tetris Effect: Connected, was announced for Xbox and Windows, later also being released on Nintendo Switch.
